How to cook caramelized onions

Peel onions and slice into 1/8-inch thick rounds.

Melt butter in sauté pan over medium-ish heat.

Add onions and lightly salt and pepper. You can always add more later.

Stir onions to break them up and coat them with butter.

Cook onions over medium-ish heat for 10 minutes. Stir after 5 and then 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes, onions will look like this. Stir onions, and turn heat down to medium-low. Cook onions for 10 more minutes.

Onions after 20 minutes. Stir and cook another 10 minutes.

Onions after 30 minutes. Turn heat down a little lower. Stir and cook another 10 minutes.

Onions after 40 minutes. Stir and continue to cook another 10 minutes.

Onions after 50 minutes. Turn heat to lowest setting. Stir onions and continue cooking for another 10 minutes.

Onions after 60 minutes. Done.

Move caramelized onions to a clean bowl for serving or to wait for their placement in your meal.

These onions topped a fabulous burger tight and then got topped with some bacon. Best burger my husband ever ate at home, he says.
